Are you using the right shampoo?

In the shampoo world, sulfate is a dirty word.

It's an ingredient found in a lot of shampoos - more commonly known as detergent.

Sulfates cause the shampoo to lather up and can actually dry out your hair because it strips it of its moisture and colour. There are plenty of shampoos out there that do the job of cleaning your hair, without this ingredient. You might need to give your hair an extra wash to get the best clean, but it's worth it.

As with all products, you need to find the right one for you, depending on your hair.

While the right shampoo is a big part of making your locks look its best, there are a few other things you should consider.

You also must condition to pack in moisture (even if you have oily hair) because it makes it easier to style.

You can even think about using a different shampoo and conditioner because, for example, you could have oily roots and dry ends, that each require individual attention.

A volumising shampoo is not only ideal for those with fine hair. Anyone with oily hair should consider picking this off the shelf because it builds body by lifting the hair cuticle.

Shampoos designed for colour treated hair often contain SPF to protect hair from the sun which fades colour quicker. If you colour your locks, opt for a shine shampoo as well.

Here are the best of the sulfate free shampoos for every type of hair - and not all of them will set you back a pretty penny.
