My holistic facial experience
There’s something special about getting a facial. Complete me time where no one can disturb you and you really can’t go anywhere while there’s a scrub on your face. Not something anyone really needs to see.
I’m all about looking after your skin, using the right products recommended by the experts and taking time out to care for your skin, whether it’s a mask, exfoliating or sticking to your moisturising and sunscreen routine.
When your skin looks good, your foundation will look better and think of how good you feel.
So with that in mind, I went for a facial, but not just any facial, a holistic facial. Holistic is the idea that everything is connected and when you have a holistic treatment, you treat the mind and body.
People who know me might be surprised that I opted for a holistic treatment because when i’m sick you’re more likely to find me at a doctor than a naturopath, but I love trying new things and am so glad I did. It was possibly the most relaxed I have been in months (and yes I fell asleep during the treatment).
I had my treatment at Inda Holistic in Canberra - my go to for all natural products. I paid for the facial.
My treatment was first thing in the morning so I had no makeup to remove. My skin was cleansed and then a scrub applied. It smelled amazing and Kristy, who owns the salon, gave my face a thorough but gentle exfoliate. A warm wash cloth was used to remove the scrub and a mask then applied.
While that was settling in and doing its thing, the holistic aspect began. Kristy gave me a head and neck massage before moving to my hands and feet. It just relaxed my whole body and made me feel so calm.
The peaceful music in the background added to the atmosphere.
The mask was then removed and a moisturiser massaged in. There was another head and neck massage and this is when I fell asleep. I’m not sure how long I was out for. Once the one moisturiser had soaked in, another one was applied for added hydration.
I felt truly amazing after the treatment and my skin felt soft and smooth. I definitely noticed an improvement in hydration and overall appearance for days afterwards.
A facial is a treat and not something we all have the time and money for on a regular basis but I think it is an essential part of a beauty routine.
Remember, you can do one at home with your own exfoliant and mask. Sheet masks packed with hyaluronic acid that hydrate and improve skin texture are great as is a charcoal mask which draws out impurities.
Follow up with a moisturiser and you should notice an improvement in the overall appearance of your skin. If you have sensitive or acne prone skin, you might want to consult a dermatologist or dermal clinician to make sure you're doing the best thing for your skin.
