Canberra nail artist takes on the big guns

Move over OPI and Revlon!

Canberra nail artist Anna O’Shea is taking it up to the big brands, releasing her own nail polish line and cuticle oil.

“I love sharing nail journeys and wanted to create a line of Australian made nail polish for the women who like to do their own nails,” she says.

“Cuticle oil is an important part of nail care so I felt they go hand in hand.”

The four colours – Royalty, Spring Time, Flamingo and Sunshine – are the perfect shades for Summer and Anna pours each bottle by hand.

“Currently I am buying an untinted base and coloured tinters to mix and make my own colours,” she says.

“I found my colour inspiration on Pinterest and I wanted to create some fun summer pastels.”

Now we know the market is saturated with nail polishes – some good, some not so good (you know the ones that chip in half a day) – but Anna’s are different from the rest.

“My polishes are hand made in Canberra, they are 5 free which means they don't contain Formaldehyde, Camphor, Dibutyl Phthalate (DPB), Toluene or Formaldehyde resin.”

The cuticle oil is also a cut above. It comes in a roller ball so there’s no mess like you might get with droppers or brushes. If you’ve never used cuticle oil, now is the time to start.

“Cuticle oil is used to keep your cuticles and nails nourished and hydrated. Ideally you should use it everyday,” Anna says.

“A good cuticle oil will always contain Jojoba oil that is able to repair the damaged collagen matrix inside nail beds, improving strength and promoting healthy nail growth.”

The cuticle oil is $9.95.

As for the nail polishes, they come in collections of 4x5ml bottles for $19.95 and you can get all the colours.

If you can pick a favourite, you can get a 10ml bottle for $16.95.

If you don’t live in Canberra, the nail polishes can be shipped around Australia. Overseas shipping isn’t available at the moment.

I have tried the nail polishes and am a fan, specifically that they’re missing those 5 chemicals. Painting my nails was one of the things I was conscious of when pregnant so it’s a relief to know something safer is available for all the mummas to be out there.

Anna treated me to a fabulous manicure (my first in about a year). The last one I had, I was 7 months pregnant and now my son is 10 months.

I chose Royalty – the purple. It stayed chip free for several days. I change nappies and as a result wash my hands a lot more than I used to so it will probably last longer on other people.

How the colours look in the bottle is how they come out on your nails. The consistency is great and they’re easy to apply. The polish also dries quickly.

This is just the beginning for Anna’s nail line. She plans to release new colours every season and I’ll be there to try them.
